The figures in colum 1 shew what masters will

draw under present arrangements in 1914.

The figures in column 2 shew the proposed salar:

-ies to be draw in the lst. 18 years of a master's career.

The masters'names are put on the line cor-

-responding to taeir years of service in 1914, counting from the bottom e.g. Mr. Edwards will be in his 2nd. year in 1914.

The red figures over each master's name show

what he stands to gain under the new scheme in 1914.

The immediate monetary effect would be an

increase of £287-10, and a decrease of £300 (apart from savings

made on the Police School,) namely the initial salary of one

English Master.

The ultimate cost is impossible to calculate.

A lively imagination might picture ten years

hence Messrs. James, Bird, Crook, Curven, Birbeck, de Martin and

Morris all drawing £550, in which case - for the remaining few

years of their service the Government would lose, as compared with the present scheme, to the tune of 7(£550 - £480) £490 per annum. On the other hand it would be still saving the 2480 for the

English Mastership abolished.
